Construction
of broken off teeth - artificial stump
One of the dentist’s most important
task is saving-, and supplement the teeth. If
the upper part of a tooth breaks off, but its
root remains intact, the reconstruction of the
broken off part can be solved with a root implanted
stump and a crown placed on top of it. Thus the
adjacent teeth can be spared, since they should
not be grinded and it is not necessary to make
a bridge.
Task preceding the intervention
The fundamental principle is
that the stump can only be placed into a root
treated tooth. First the root treatment has to
be done, than 24 hours later the stump can be
placed into the tooth. In all cases a visiographical
X-ray has to be done, in order to exclude that
the root peak region is not inflamed. The dentist
makes a decision thereafter, if the root can be
used for a stumped tooth construction. The pinned
artificial stump can not be prepared in the following
cases: the root is curved; a part of the tooth
is broken under the gum.
Process of the construction
The dentist pre drills the channel
of the tooth root, than takes an imprint from
both the lower and the upper jaw - bone. For the
next appointment, through the dental technician
prepared rod shaped part of the metal pin, is
stuck with cement into the tooth root. Above,
the gums part will look like if it was a grinded
tooth. From this, the dentist takes another imprint
and the dental technician prepares the crown.
The dentist sticks the crown up on the stump at
the next appointment.
