Oral hygiene
treatment - removal of dental calculus
The reasons of dental calculus
If we do not clean our teeth
regularly and accurately, plaque forms on the
surface of our teeth, which is primarily made
out of bacteria. The dental calculus takes shape
if this plaque calcificates, (calcium carbonate,
in other words limestone is deposited in it.)
The dental calculus may develop above and under
the gums. It forms opposite the exit slots of
the big salivary glands in the largest quantity.
The coffee, tea, coke, smoking can equally discolour
the teeth and the calculus.
Should we not brush our teeth regularly after
taking meals, removing the harmful plaque, inflammation
may occur mainly under the gums in the case of
developed tartars. At this time the gums are reddish,
painful, at toothbrush is bleeding, moves away
from the teeth. The inflammation can also spread
into the tooth bed deeper tissues, later can cause
bone decay. The shift of teeth may begin; they
become movable, and can fall out later on.
Removal of the dental calculus
The removal of the calculus is
called depuraling, which is a basic curing procedure
of gingivitis and periodontium illnesses. With
its help, it is possible to remove the plaque,
calculus, other sediments and colorants. Before
the treatment the mucus is anaesthetised with
a Lidocain spray. The dentist makes the intervention
with ultrasonic tartar removing device. A manual
instrument does the more delicate, mainly under
the gums work. After the calculus removal, follows
the surface polishing of teeth. This is necessary,
because on the smooth surfaces plaque sticking
and development of calculus is more difficult.
Tasks after the tartar removal
Tooth neck sensitivity may occur
after the treatment (for cold, warm, sweet, sour
flavours). With sensitive toothpaste or the use
of fluorine gel this sensitivity can be ceased
in a week or two. The new formation of the calculus
is dependent on the nourishing habits of the patient
and the use of appropriate tooth cleaning and
mouth care methods. The dentist provides adequate
information about the suitable mouth hygiene devices
and those proper home uses.
